Frustrated Tweets New Headache For Airlines

Reuters:

Indignant letters, e-mails and phone calls can still get results for unhappy airline travelers, but more are finding that if you really want to vent your frustrations, you can now be loud and fast and public.

At least that’s the buzz on Twitter, where airlines are discovering that fuming passengers who have been stranded, delayed or just plain piqued are increasingly letting their undiluted rage fly around the Internet, often from the confines of their cramped airplane seat.

Twitter and other fast-growing social networking websites like Facebook and YouTube have sprung up as yet another front in beleaguered airlines public relations battle.

Although such sites have practical uses for airlines — say, publicizing fare sales and flight information — experts said the technology has put carriers on the defensive as they race to tame Twitter furies every day.

“It’s almost an underground rage factory,” said Terry Trippler, at tripplersview.com, a travel opinion website. “Rarely, I see Twitter messages praising an airline. It’s usually attacking an airline.”

It’s no secret to anyone that Twitter continues to grow more and more with every day that goes by. Many wonder why Twitter is so huge, and why the growth of Twitter has not even so much as slowed down in the least. There are many good and valid reasons as to why Twitters growth can not be stopped located below.

  • Big companies continue to get on the Twitter train which of course causes a large growth spurt in Twitter accounts. As posted on Up and Running.
  • Their astounding growth. It was recently reported that Twitter jumped from 2 million to 20 million per month in just this year alone.
  • International growth. It is said that around 55 percent of Twitter’s users are international.
  • “Social Radar analyzes the Web to see what brands are mentioned most by unique sources. This includes blogs, other social networks, forums, etc. The analysis includes brands, not just social networks. Facebook is at number 4, with the iPhone and Google at number 3 and 4, respectively.”

Twitter Is A Twademark. Tweet: Not So Much

Mashable:

There’s been a lot of talk over Twitter’s attempts to trademark the word “tweet” (Twitter has been a trademark of theirs for some time now), but blogger Sam Johnston did some digging and found out that it’s unlikely that Twitter will ever be able to trademark this particular word.

Just like the verb “google”, tweet and tweeting have become a part of our everyday language. Furthermore, several other companies filed for a similar trademark – “tweetmarks”, “cotweet”, “tweetphoto.”

Check Sam’s blog for the legal details, but it all boils down to the fact that Twitter will probably never reign over the word “tweet”, and – hopefully – no one else will, either.
