80% Of People Use Twitter For Biz

Penn-Olson:

According to a new research from Kamaron Research Institute, about 80% of the people use Twitter for business purposes. More than 8 in 10 listed “business” as the reason why they tweet.

This holds true for younger twitter-ers as well. Nearly half of those aged 25 and under gave “business” as the primary reason they tweet.

This Study, “Why Do You Tweet” was conducted online with a respondent group size of 280 Twitter Users.

Just 3 days ago, Biz Stone told Venturebeat that strategic statistic tools for businesses would soon be officially introduced on Twitter. Assuming the findings to be representative of the whole Twitter community, Biz Stone and co can very well expect a great sign up rate upon launch.

It seems like Twitter is doing all the right things to appeal to its users, helping it grow on the right track towards monetization.

IBM Patent Means Your TV Remote Will Twitter Too

Fast Company:

It’s only a matter of time before someone releases a dedicated gadget for Tweeting. And now an IBM patent has surfaced implying that soon your TV remote control will do your microblogging for you.

The network-enabled smart remote control would send out a digital message to initiate a blog post whenever you choose to watch a TV show.

Because your interface with the remote is pretty limited due to its form factor, and because you are probably more interested in watching the show than sending out Tweets, the system’s strength is automation.

IBM is trying to push this debate onto social nets via the most convenient device–the remote you’ve just used to switch channels. But, of course, it’s not really as fluffily altruistic as all that: It’s actually all about generating buzz about what’s on TV by driving up the viewer interaction…and that will push up viewing figures and thus potential revenue.

Whether it’s neat, crazy, or whether it’ll actually be used if it ever makes its way into a real device is anyone’s guess.

But it’s one of the strongest indicators yet that social networking and your devices are going to marry up in ways you’ll be surprised by.

Who’s On Twitter?

OK, so who’se on Twitter – besides the spammers of course. We all know about them.

Here’s the Twitter account I set up for this blog ChuckWAH. It at least serves to point back to the articles here. I’m not saying I’ve created a “strategy” for it’s use.

On my personal account I’ve used the site for non profit ventures.

Creating a “strategy” involves knowing lots of things, in particular, who is using Twitter?

On that note here’s an excellent article from eMarketer about who’s on Twitter.

53% are women. Most are under 25. But there are plenty of older “fish” in that pond too if that’s your market. 5% of users provide 75% of the “tweets”.

More tweets = More followers often. Or is that the other way around?

Smart marketers use the site for research. When the Air Force sent a jetliner unannounced into New York giving an entire city bad flashbacks, they used Twitter (in part) to guage the outrage.

Big companies that are already doing ok like Zappos.com use Twitter to show a “personal side”.

Microusers are finding ways to promote some, but lots of people who follow you because you’re a person may unfollow you if you start sending out too many teeth whitening ads – they followed you for your personal comments.

Finding your market and serving it without spamming it are the trick to master as with all media.
