 Happy New Year

I recently came across an article naming the top 25 most creative business people in the world today. Some of them i found to be quite interesting and not someone that i would have ever thought of until i read this article. Below are a few of these top most creative business people, visit Fast Company to view all 25 of them.

  1. Melinda Gates. As Bill Gates wife she has been said by Bill himself that the company would never even exist if it wasn’t for her input and influences she gives him.
  2. Reed Hastings the founder of Netflix has broadened his range of Netflix devices to not just the Internet (as originally planned) but to the TV and other Netflix read devices.
  3. Stella McCartney is said to be the new face for responsible clothing. In her designs there is no leather or fur used to create her luxurious clothing line.
  4. You have to admire a guy gutsy enough to build an office building in Paris taller than the Eiffel Tower. By 2012, Thom Mayne’s 68-story La Phare (”the Lighthouse”) will rise over the La Defense district. The 2005 Pritzker Prize winner is famous for audacious buildings: the bunkerlike Caltrans District 7 Headquarters in Los Angeles that locals call the “Death Star”; the disjointed Cahill Center at Caltech; the mesh-covered science and art center at New York’s Cooper Union.

World Changing Ideas

With so many trials and tribulations in the world today with cancer, paralysis, kidney disease, poverty and more, everyone continues praying for big ideas to come on how to fix our many problems. Here is a list of some ideas I recently came across on AOL Small Business that are sure to change the world!

  • Lifestraw is a wondrous device that can turn the worlds dirteist water into clean drinking water. Imagine all the emergency situations where this would come in handy for someone.
  • Acuset provides a cheap and precise alternative to the $2,000 microprocessor-controlled syringe pumps that are used to ensure accurate and safe medicine and re-hydration fluid delivery by intravenous infusion in the first world. Because about 2.5 billion IV sets are used annually throughout the developing world — and when administering potent drugs even a 3mm mistake can be fatal — the $6 controller could save millions of lives.
  • Restoring sight to the blind. Imagine being born blind and in your 20’s or 30’s undergoing an operation where a camera is fitted to you and wires strung to the right parts of your brain in order to restore sight! Imagine seeing EVERYTHING for the first time ever.
  • Printing skin. Even the best plastic surgeons have a hard time repairing severely damaged disfigurements and burn victims. But the University of Manchester may be able to change that someday with their technology in printing skin. Using 3D images in order to create an exact replica of skin tissue in order to grow the skin cells perfectly.

Gardening Without Dirt

Good:

Most people seem to be in agreement these days that simple ideas often offer the best solutions. Here’s an invention that fits the bill perfectly. Prepara has invented NASA-technology enhanced at-home plant growers that don’t need soil. Which, if you have a black thumb and an incurable love of plants like I do, could be a godsend.

“You’ll see the simplicity of the power plants growing technology allows you to be bug, worm and dirt free,” says the site. “It sits discreetly on your sunny window sill, is very low maintenance, grows quicker and fuller plants and takes the guesswork out of growing.”

This is especially appealing because for people who don’t use chemical fertilizers or pesticides, apartment gardening can present it’s share of problems. (Specifically, bug infestations in pot soil—to which I’ve lost many a plant.) This eliminates that, and the black-thumb conundrum.

It might not be for everyone, and it might not have the same aesthetic appeal as good old terracotta planters, but it does seem to mean idiot-proof herbs at your fingertips.
