Many business owners are coming to the realization that having a blog is a very powerful tool for their business to have in its corner, but many of them don’t really know how to start a blog or how to make it grow into something great for that matter.

Choose your niche wisely. Decide on a topic for your blog and then deliver your news and information in a fashion that will entice and engage readers. Select your theme well, and make sure it’s something you’re passionate about, as you’ll be married to it day in and day out, constantly sourcing information for content. Also, consider the competition in your genre. The more unique your chosen topic is, the more chance of success you will have.

Your readers are your key to a successful blog. Remember that they all value their time and want to see interesting content. They want this content in small doses so that it’s not taking up too much of their time. They want to see something exciting, valuable, and something that makes them want to read more every day.

Check out other blogs within your niche and see how theirs is laid out, what they write about, how many followers they have, any offerings that they include on their site and more. This will not only give you a sense of where about you should be but it will also give you a chance to join their blogs in order to build your community.

Remember that your blog is a powerful tool for your business, and in order to keep that tool successful you have to work at it. As posted on Open Forum.

When people start thinking about starting their own business, they wonder where to find a great business idea that will be as profitable as they would like. Many don’t realize there are about a dozen business ideas around their own home and property!

Take your garage for example, there are several different business ideas that you could start that pertain to a person’s garage such as cleaning, creating storage space, building shelving units, and refinishing, to name a few. Another great business idea is anything that pertains to lawn services. Many people consider their lawn as a way to set the mood for a first impression on the rest of their home. You can venture into cutting grass, landscaping, and more.

Closets. No home ever seems to have enough closet space. Thankfully, there are a number of franchises that exist to help organize closets for maximum efficiency. They help customers design closet layouts and then sell and install the products needed to make these the most efficient rooms in the house.

Take a look at your bathroom, how many times have you thought about expanding it or remodeling it? Entrepreneur.com suggests that this would make for another great business idea. People, especially those with large families, prefer large, numerous bathrooms throughout the house and elegant looking bathrooms to show off to company.

The next time you’re thinking about what to do for a great business, just simply walk around your own home or yard and think about all the possibilities of what you could do!

Then, recalls Jeff Avalon, one of them said, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could have a dry erase board that just took up the entire wall?” Over the next three years, Avalon, John Goscha, and Morgan Newman collaborated with chemists to come up with a durable, smooth, and nonabsorbing paint that could turn a flat surface into an erasable board.

I’ve never been much of a manager myself. That’s no big deal, of course; lots of people aren’t managers. In my case, though, people expected me to be, because I’ve had a lifetime of successful entrepreneurship. But entrepreneurship and management are different things. Stated on BPlans.com.

I recently read over Tim Berry’s post on what makes a good manager and I found some of his points to be quite interesting. Everyone wonders what makes a good or great manager at some point, especially if they are the one’s in the managers position. Is it that the manager has respect? Is a good manager someone who has both enemies as well as allies?

Maybe a good manager is someone who is able to lead their co-workers through good times as well as bad times. Or a good manager may be someone who is great at getting things done as well as doing all of the bidding for the company.

In my opinion I think a good manager is made up of several different qualities. Someone who yes, can get thing’s done in a timely manner, delegate well to others, do the companies bidding, and someone who is well liked but also has enemies. Yes, a manager no matter how nice they are will have at least one enemy floating around somewhere, it’s impossible not to have an enemy. You will never be able to make EVERYONE happy in business or life even being in a managers role.

What do you think makes for a good manager?

In business it can become very difficult over the years to continuously manage your cash flow. Often times as business owners we get into a groove of letting things slide here and there, letting customers slide here and there, and before we know it our cash flow is much less than what we would like it to be. Look below for some great tips on how to manage your cash flow better.

Include payment due dates on all of your invoices.

Accept partial payments if the entire balance can not be made.

Make sure to get all of your invoices out on time.

When you receive the payments make sure you deposit them right away.

Include discounts as well as penalties.

Review your expenses at least every 6 months to see if you still need them all.

By keeping up on the above mentioned areas, you should be able to see better cash flow coming into your company within a few months provided you keep at it, recently stated on Capital Solutions Bancorp.

With so many trials and tribulations in the world today with cancer, paralysis, kidney disease, poverty and more, everyone continues praying for big ideas to come on how to fix our many problems. Here is a list of some ideas I recently came across on AOL Small Business that are sure to change the world!

Lifestraw is a wondrous device that can turn the worlds dirteist water into clean drinking water. Imagine all the emergency situations where this would come in handy for someone.

Acuset provides a cheap and precise alternative to the $2,000 microprocessor-controlled syringe pumps that are used to ensure accurate and safe medicine and re-hydration fluid delivery by intravenous infusion in the first world. Because about 2.5 billion IV sets are used annually throughout the developing world — and when administering potent drugs even a 3mm mistake can be fatal — the $6 controller could save millions of lives.

Restoring sight to the blind. Imagine being born blind and in your 20’s or 30’s undergoing an operation where a camera is fitted to you and wires strung to the right parts of your brain in order to restore sight! Imagine seeing EVERYTHING for the first time ever.

Printing skin. Even the best plastic surgeons have a hard time repairing severely damaged disfigurements and burn victims. But the University of Manchester may be able to change that someday with their technology in printing skin. Using 3D images in order to create an exact replica of skin tissue in order to grow the skin cells perfectly.

As employers we all know that when it comes to hiring employees, especially today with so many people out of work trying to find a job, it is a very daunting task. It sometimes seems as though anyone will walk in off the street and hand in an application for any job whether they know what they’re doing or not.

When interviewing, always make sure to pick the one person in your office who is truly great at interviews of any kind. Someone who can remain calm, collected, and push the employee to answer revealing questions about themselves within the companies legal limits to do so.

Always, always, always check up on their references. Many people surprisingly put down either people they barely know, people they haven’t spoken to in forever, or even people that they don’t really know well but they figure you won’t take the time to check up on it… check on them!

The job description. Think carefully about the listing. What are the job’s responsibilities? What skill set is required? It also pays to think about what advantages your company has to offer that would make this job appealing. Remember, you have options, and so do the best candidates.

When coming to the end of the interview and your making them an offer, spell everything that’s on the table out to them. Don’t leave any room for them to be able to manipulate what they “thought” or were given the impression that they were getting. Have an outline on paper ready for them to take a look at when it comes to all the offerings you are prepared to make them.
The following is a guest post from Bizymoms.

If you love to meet new people and enjoy playing the host in your community, the Welcome Service business makes an idyllic choice of business for you. The basic task involved in this business is to welcome new residents and other people like newly weds, couples with newborn babies and students in your community and make them feel at home. Provide them with basic information about the area so that they quickly get adapted to their new surroundings. The amazing part is that while you do this community service, you get the opportunity to earn a nice income out of it.

There are a lot of local businesses out there in your community that are looking for new customers. Your Welcome Service, along with helping new people adjust in their new environment, promotes these local businesses in order to support your effort and let it pay for itself. Businesses see this as a personal advertising service. There is a strong value proposition in it for them because they get the opportunity to reach a new customer directly and personally, with you acting as their representative or community ambassador.

Essentially, your job as a Welcome Service provider is to drive out to the client’s home after seeking an appointment with him. Generally, this could be over the weekends or in the evenings. You would typically carry an attractive gift basket or bag that is filled with useful informational material, discount coupons, and promotional stuff from your local business sponsors.

Your sponsors will typically pay you on a per visit basis, and many times they will make a long-term contract with you on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, depending upon your relationship with the sponsor. The payment of each sponsor varies, it would be best to check around your local area or state and see what the going rates are.

All marketers understand the need to reach out to the customer first, before other competition arrives. Customers will usually build a loyalty with the one they start with first, and thereafter it is very difficult for the competition to pull away that customer. This is where the importance of your Welcome Service business lies. It is a business that lets you mix work with fun, and gives you the opportunity to meet with new people, and earns you a great income at the same time!

The key advantage of this business is that you can start it with minimum investments and minimum risk. If you are looking to start with a low profile, you can launch your business all by yourself, without hiring any employees or other expensive overheads. Even the marketing and advertising part of the business can be handled with low costs by using innovative online marketing techniques.

Once you have established a firm foothold in the market, your business will automatically grow with the help of word-of-mouth publicity. Sponsors will prefer to approach you on their own when they start receiving actual sales results from tying up with your business. Once your business has reached such a stage, you may be in a position to hire “greeters” or “Welcome Sales Representatives” to expand the scope of your market.

All you need is a sound business plan and effective business management to run your Welcome Service efficiently and profitably. So if you think your profile is suited to this business, go ahead and weigh your options carefully and then take a final decision.

Bizymoms has been helping women start work at home businesses for over 10 years. It is easy to start a Welcome Service with their work at home business kit that includes everything you need to start your own Welcome Service.

Marketing can come in several different packages, aspects, and looks. Companies spend thousands of dollars every day on high tech marketing thinking it will bring in more business, but the truth is that there are several ways of successful marketing that doesn’t have to break your bank account. Take Internet businesses for example, most of the marketing comes at a low cost to you. Below are some tips on no brainer and low cost marketing for Internet businesses.

Email actions. There are so many different ways you can market your business by just using your email account. You can attach documents (ads, coupons, etc.), you can attach a business signature to the end of your email, send out sale notifications and newsletters via email and more.

The Mogul Mom recently suggested that another great no brainer way of marketing is to include some thoughtful comments on your site. You may add simple comments such as thanking them for their response, but what most readers are looking for is actual feedback and consideration from you. Go on and contribute anywhere you can on blogs, comments boards and more. Give them some adivce or tips, strike up a short conversation with them, or simply add more content to your thank you message.

Testimonials: I don’t know about you, but I put a much heavier weight on testimonials from real humans than I do on seeing celebrities wearing or using a product that was more than likely gifted to them. When I’m thinking of buying, trying or using something (from products to services to books to appliances to WordPress plugins), I want to see reviews or testimonials from real people. Don’t you?
