You can only do this if your home is dual zoned for both industrial and residential.

This is called being "a shade tree mechanic " - and its never legal! You cannot get a city license to fix cars at your residence - as it violates city zoning laws. If you try to Advertise your business in any legitimate media - you will be reported. You may however, advertise as a MOBILE CAR REPAIR - and name your specialty - Tune-ups at their facility. Like you may repair disabled cars at the owners premises - replace batteries, do oil changes, do tune-ups, troubleshoot problems - but you may not do engine overhauls at your garage. If you purchase cars to repair and sell them when you've finished fixing them - then you are allowed to buy and sell 6 cars per year - See your States DMV for exact rules.

You cannot use a residential home for business without permission from your local Council, particularly mending cars which might need you using welding equipment. You would need Insurance if they allowed you. I honestly do not think you stand a chance. your neighbours will complain. Phone the Council before you do anything. UK
